Eeep, sounds awful!
Usually Germans are very nice and go out of their way to speak English to you even when you’re trying to speak to them in German. You get rude old men everywhere though I suppose.

Yikes! I’ve never been to Berlin, but I found everyone in Munich to be extremely friendly, welcoming, and English-speaking. Had a bit of a nightmare scenario in Frankfort en route to Paris, though…
