Elly and Andrea - well, your comments have given me the necessary confidence in light therapy, so I'm going on a light hunt tomorrow. :) Anything to get through a day without feeling like I should be asleep! Thanks for the advice.
d@\/e and McBouncy - good grief. No, you do not have a vitamin D deficiency. It sounds to me like it's more a case of missing festive spirit. To remedy this, I recommend two glasses of Baileys (on the rocks, so you get that satisfying "clink" when you swirl it around), an open fire, twinkling lights, at least one viewing of The Snowman, a kiss under the mistletoe (not with each other, obviously), and some acknowledgement of the fact that Christmas is not about mad shopping frenzies or the like. It's about warm, snuggly happiness. Better? :)
bevchen - ditto on the crapness at social situations! But yes, I'd say you probably do have the SAD thing. I'm still reluctant to call it this, as it does sound like a made-up thing to me, but I reckon it must affect pretty much everyone. I mean, if it's medical, and your body really cannot produce the 'happy' chemicals without sunshine. It's just that I can't figure out how people survived without "light therapy" thousands of years ago.

Having said that, I mentioned this to Riho and he replied "Erm... they *killed* themselves!", as if that should be really obvious...

I don't like winter. I hate getting up in the dark and coming home in the dark, freezing to death in the rain while waiting for the tram, constantly having to blow my nose as a result of standing around in said rain... the only redeeming feature of this time of year is snow, and we rarely get that here. Booo. Winter makes me tired and depressed - maybe I have SAD too? Although I haven't gained any weight and I'm crap at social situations all year round.
Summer is my favourite season. I adore the sun, but last year I managed to get sunstroke from a half hour trip in to town. Yep, I'm allergic to my favourite season too.
Umm, sorry for the long rambly comment.

I fully endorse the remarks of the last speaker! Got a lamp (rather expensive but they send it on appro!) last yr, got into a nice habit of going back to bed with my coffee for 20 mins with lamp on by my side (listening to the World Service whilst cuddling Sooty the Poodlington) and to my surprise found it helped - didn't even mind having to set the alarm for 20 mins earlier!

The light therapy lamps really do work. I bought one last year when things got really bad and within 2 weeks I was pretty much back to normal.

It's about time that I need to pull it out again for this winter, I can feel the energy levels flagging and the carb craving increasing...
